Yes, we did it. Funny blog post name about Belize: Check! We spent 4 months in Mexico and, although we loved it, were ready to explore some new territory.
PALENQUE – WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
By the time we made it to Palenque we were deep into the jungle. Vegetation is radically different, the humidity skyrockets, and the resulting mosquitos are relentless. Oh yeah, there are howler monkeys too.
GUANAJUATO: COME FOR A DAY, STAY FOR WEEKS
A 5 hour drive north from Patzcuaro took us to the Unesco World Heritage Site and colonial town of Guanajuato. We had heard romantic musings from fellow overlanders about how much they loved this city. We agreed.
CHACALA TO GUADALAJARA
Once we made it back to Guadalajara there was but one thing left to do: check out proper Mexican wrestling. We need this in Canada.
A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE IN PUERTO VALLARTA
The night watchman arrived by surprise at our door. He rattled off a string of sentences in Spanish, which Richard interpreted as “follow me!” with a big smile on his face.

Mainland Mexico welcomed us with open arms. We loved Baja, but were excited to experience something new and different.

Our final task in Baja was to get on the ferry and head to the mainland.

It took four weeks for us to get to the very southern tip of Baja after crossing at Tijuana into northern Mexico.
